Parametric Joint Models

Update to previous post about designing a joint by parametric modelling and casting it.

A digital model is drawn to show the possible arrangement of nuts and bolts at the joint. Two possibility of the member profile shown connecting to the node.

Thanks to the CNC router at HKU and the help from Diana Leung (Technician at HKU), themold is milled out of insulation foam.

It has four parts, which are ties together by threaded rods and sealed with Vaseline and duck tape.

Thanks to Carrie Cheung (colleague) who had a lot of experience in casting concrete, which made the casting process very smooth and successful. The deeper colour of the concrete was the Vaseline which is used to smooth out the mold and made demolding easier.

I like the heaviness of the piece.
